New Home for Food Bank Made Possible by Local Donations and Volunteers

The Kingsville Community Food Bank has officially opened its new location at the well-known Lions Hall. It now joins the South Essex Community Council and the Lions Club under one roof. The Food Bank also has access to the Lions Club Hall twice a month for community events.

After 13 years on Division Road, the Food Bank moved downtown to better serve the needs of its clients.

“We’d been looking for a central location that would offer easy access for clients who walk, as well as more privacy and discretion,” said Meghan Bolton who, along with Heather Pillon, serves as President, Co-President, and Food Bank Coordinators. “The new space is also larger, cleaner, and fully accessible.”

The move wouldn’t have been possible without the support of local trades and community volunteers.

On April 24th, a special luncheon was held to thank the volunteers who donated their time and expertise to renovate the space. Among those in attendance were representatives from Noah Homes, Truax Lumber, and other generous tradespeople, each recognized for their invaluable contributions. Mayor Dennis Rogers was also present to celebrate the opening.

“This entire project was possible because of the heart of this town,” Meghan said. “We’re a fully independent food bank, run entirely by volunteers and powered by donations. We’re grateful for our generous and caring community – people are always there when we need them.”

Now operating under a 10-year lease with the Town of Kingsville, the Food Bank serves approximately 150 to 200 individuals each week. The most represented age groups are youth aged 10 to 18 and adults from 31 to 50.

First and foremost, clients must be residents of the Kingsville municipality and provide proof of address, photo ID, income and expense information, as well as ID for all members of the household.
