Fort Malden National Historic Site Gate Protocols Changed For Season

For the 2025 operational season, the gates at Fort Malden National Historic Site will be closed during the Fort’s hours of operation, which are:

  • May 17 to June 29: Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • July 1 to August 31: Daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • September 3 to October 12: Wednesday to Friday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Gates will be open outside of hours of operation, generally 5 p.m. to 10 a.m. The gates will remain open on days the fort is closed from April 1 to December 19, 2025.

The gates being closed are located at Fort Malden Dr. and Dalhousie St. and beside the Fort Malden Visitor Centre. The entire Fort Malden site, including the waterfront pathway, will be part of the Fort Malden visitor experience that is accessible during hours of operation to those who purchase admission, with entrance and exit only through the Visitor Centre.

Outside of posted hours of operation, the waterfront pathway that runs through the grounds will remain available to the community through both sets of gates.

This decision allows for one point of entry to Fort Malden during hours of operation to support the site experience as a local attraction and tourist destination. One clear point of entry provides for an organised visitor flow and ensures opportunities for staff to communicate essential information to support a safe and enjoyable visit to Fort Malden.

Reducing entry points also provides value to Canadians in reducing costs associated with multiple entry points and gate monitoring, redirecting those resources elsewhere.

The entire Fort Malden site will once again be used for programming, including tours, musket demonstrations, and cannon firings, with staff focused on interpreting and protecting heritage and cultural resources. Cultural resources are irreplaceable and connect us with the places, persons, and events that have shaped history in Canada.

Parks Canada knows that this site is an important recreational space and thanks the community for their understanding. We look forward to sharing this protected and significant historic site with the local community and welcoming visitors back to Fort Malden on May 17, 2025.
