Announcements, Obituary

Margaret Thorpe (September 16, 1924 – January 26, 2025)

Margaret Thorpe, 100 years of age passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Aged Care Royal Oak in Kingsville. Born September 16, 1924, to her parents Harold and Anna (nee Hedges) Balkwill in Gosfield South Township.

Margaret loved farm life, gardening, sewing, reading and animals of all kinds, especially her cats. She was known for her fabulous pie crusts and coconut tarts. She was an artistic, creative, talented and resourceful person who inspired her children and grandchildren to think outside the box and develop skills as problem solvers.

Margaret will be remembered by her wicked sense of humor and quick wit! This was yet another trait she had passed down to her children. She had a strong sense of responsibility … She promised to live to 100, and true to her word, she did.

Margaret will be remembered as a loving wife of the late Melbourne “Mel” (2021), predeceased by her siblings William Balkwill (2019), Helen Balkwill (2008), Emma Holland (1991) and survived by brother Jack Balkwill. Dear mother to Carol (Tunk), Sandra (Flavio) D’Alimonte, Bill (Colleen), Bob (Elaine), and Merri (David) Wye.

Will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Grandmother of Laura D’Alimonte (Mike Trieu), Gabriel D’Alimonte, Cameron Thorpe, Kate (Sheldon) Palmer, Carrie Thorpe, Lisa Thorpe, Megan Wye and Shelby (Adam) Gault. Great grandchildren, Melissa Thorpe, Marleigh Thorpe and Fynn Trieu.

Funeral Service will take place at Kendrick Funeral Home – Kingsville, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Olav Kitchen officiating. A burial will take place at Greenhill Cemetery in the Thorpe Family plot.
