As of January 21, 2025, Erie Shores HealthCare has begun implementing updated masking procedures for the protection of patients and staff as well as the community at large. The goal is to limit the spread of respiratory illnesses such as RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), COVID-19, and influenza which are on the increase.
Masks will be required in a number of situations.
- Patients must wear masks in high-risk areas. These include waiting rooms and lounges, in the Rapid Assessment Zone (RAZ), in the Emergency Department and in the OR. Patients with respiratory symptoms must wear a mask any time they are outside their bed space.
- Visitors will be required to wear masks when within two meters of a patient. Visitors with symptoms of illness should not enter the hospital.
- Staff and physicians must wear masks during direct patient care in inpatient and outpatient settings. Masking is not required but is recommended in all non-clinical areas such as the cafeteria, hallways and offices.
These changes are essential at the present time for the protection of all patients, staff and members of the community from the transmission of respiratory illness.
