RCCO Invites The Public To Kingsville’s 2nd Annual Posada

The Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) is inviting the public to participate in Kingsville’s 2nd annual Posada on December 14, 2024.

The celebration of the Posadas is an important Mexican/Latin Christmas tradition and features prominently in holiday festivities.

The word posada means “inn” or “shelter” in Spanish. In this tradition, the Bible story of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem and their search for a place to stay is re-enacted.

The tradition involves singing carols, breaking piñatas, and features a procession in which the participants hold candles and sing Christmas carols.

At 7:00 pm guests will gather first at Epworth United Church (56 Division St. S.) to listen to Advent Music performed by a children’s choir, RCCO Organists, choir and sing Advent Carols.

After this, everyone will process with candles and walk to The Church of the Epiphany (96 Main St. W.) (10 minutes and 0.6 km) in observance of the journey made by Mary and Joseph following a star-shaped piñata.

At the Church of the Epiphany, guests will listen to organ and choral music, a children’s choir, a local singing artist, as well as sing carols, this time in the celebration of Christmas Music.

The RCCO is inviting all churches in Kingsville and the public to participate in this interdenominational activity based on music that is commonly shared by all faith communities.

Hot chocolate and other refreshments will be offered and will end with a Piñata Party.
