Transportation Master Plan: County Hosting Panel, Launches Survey

The County of Essex has launched an online survey and is hosting an expert panel at the Ciociaro Club on Dec. 5 as it updates its Transportation Master Plan – a visionary road map for moving people and goods across the region for the next 30 years.

The survey is meant to be completed by County residents and anyone who uses the County’s vast road network for work, school, recreation or leisure. It only takes a few minutes to complete and will help inform work on the plan that will serve as the guide for the long-term management and enhancement of the County’s multi-modal transportation network.

Members of the public, municipal councillors, and infrastructure and planning staff are invited to learn, listen and engage with transportation experts during a panel discussion at the Ciociaro Club from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5. The event is free, though registration in advance is required.

Called Possibilities and Potential, the panel will engage in discussions about building, enhancing and maintaining sustainable connections that will help the communities of Essex County flourish in the future, culturally, socially, environmentally and economically.

The panelists include:

  • Alvaro Almunia, Project Manager, R.J. Burnside and Associates
Almunia has more than 36 years of experience in transportation planning and has completed transportation master plans for communities locally and internationally.
  • Jerry Behl, Manager, Transportation Planning and Development, County of Essex
Behl is overseeing the Transportation Master Plan update and has extensive knowledge of the County road network and the County Wide Active Transportation System (CWATS).
  • Nadine Ibrahim, Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Waterloo
Ibrahim has worked on projects spanning the globe and leverages her academic and industry experience to lead new approaches in urban infrastructure and sustainable cities.
  • Justin Jones, Active Transportation Section Lead, HDR
Jones has been working to expand mobility choice for people in Ontario for over a decade and has brought his knowledge of best practices to more than 100 municipalities in the province.
  • Lori Newton, Executive Director, Bike Windsor Essex
Newton is a leading voice for cycling advocacy in our region and an ardent supporter of complete streets who believes public spaces should be designed for everyone from 8 to 80 years old.

Please know that this is wonderful, and although other issues need to be addressed, my main concern is transit, as we want to take a bus from Windsor to Kingsville, yet currently it only stops at Kingsville Arena, which is irrelevant, as a taxi would be required to get elsewhere.
