John Wood
Our hearts ache as we announce that our beloved husband, father, grampie, brother, uncle, cousin and friend has taken his place among the stars, shining brightly now in the tapestry of the universe. He left us on the rainy and peaceful morning of Sunday, September 29th, just shy of his 70th year. He had a song in his heart and his tireless caregiver and devoted wife by his side until the end – his bridge over troubled water.
He is preceded in death by his dear mother and father, brothers-in-law and joins his forever friends Bill and Diane in paradise. He will be missed dearly and always by his lifelong love and fiercest partner Ann (nee Allen), his loving daughters, Bronwen (Bee Zelda) and Mallory (Chris) and his darling grandchild, Jayden. His younger siblings Leslie and Bill also mourn the loss of their cherished older brother.
His family by marriage, Tom, Linda and Mary Allen, will remember him with love. He leaves behind the coveted title of “cool” uncle to a gaggle of Allen nieces and nephews and a far away but unconditionally loving uncle and cousin to the Woods and Gabels as well.
His role as father, grandfather and husband was John’s true North. He was a loyal and devoted partner and a boisterously loving father and grampie.
John was also known by endearing monikers – Woodsey to Gary and Sue and many other of his cherished friends and Chef Rock to his favourite colleagues and many students.
John leaves the legacy of his culinary prowess and abundant generosity of effort in the kitchen. He offered his time and skill to many student competitions, charity events, and family celebrations. His food won awards, made everyone happy, and he was truly proud to give this gift to as many as he could.
His passion for music was a guiding light, and his singing voice was a cherished blessing to all who had the privilege of hearing it. If you miss him, listen to your favourite song. He’ll be there too. Furthermore, John wanted everyone to smile and laugh when you think of him and it is certain now that that is why he told all those terrible jokes for so many years. Have fun reminiscing about those.
Lastly, John’s family would like to thank every person who was involved in his medical journey. Your patience and devotion to his care is so greatly appreciated. You gave us more time with him.
As per the wishes of John, there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, if you are able, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society in his honour.
“One love. One heart. Let’s get together and feel alright.”

I’m saddened to hear of Chef’s passing. He was the absolute best. My favourite teacher by far. Always smiling and trying make every laugh. Rest easy big guy.
My dear cousin Ann, I am so sorry for your loss. His obituary captures his wonderful and generous life, personality, goodness, and love. My prayers are with you and the family.
