Erie Shores HealthCare is proud to announce a significant milestone: the completion of its 1,000th MRI test in the hospital’s mobile MRI suite. Since its installation this spring, the mobile unit has provided critical diagnostic services to the community, reducing wait times by nearly four weeks and expanding local access to advanced imaging.
The mobile MRI unit, which began operations in late May, was introduced as a temporary solution while the hospital constructs its permanent MRI suite. This milestone reflects Erie Shores HealthCare’s commitment to improving access to care in the region and addressing the growing demand for diagnostic services.
“We are thrilled to have reached this milestone in such a short time,” said Kristin Kennedy, President and CEO of Erie Shores HealthCare.
“The completion of 1,000 MRI tests underscores the value of this mobile unit in delivering timely, high-quality care to our patients. We are also deeply grateful to the provincial government, the Ministry of Health, Ontario Health, and all of the generous donors who have contributed to our ongoing fundraising campaign and for their continued support in making this initiative possible.”
In addition to celebrating this achievement, Erie Shores HealthCare is pleased to confirm that the construction of its permanent MRI suite remains on schedule and within budget. The new facility is expected to open in late December or early January, providing even greater access to state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging for the community.
“Since the launch of the Your Health plan last year, our government has added 49 new MRI machines in 42 hospitals across the province to increase the number of MRI scans being done each year and reduce wait times for surgeries and procedures,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.
“The completion of Erie Shores 1,000th MRI test in its mobile suite is a major milestone in expanding local access to timely diagnostic imaging and connecting people and families in the community to quality care, close to home.”
The Erie Shores Health Foundation’s (ESHF) fundraising campaign continues, with nearly $3 million already committed toward the hospital’s $5 million goal.
“We remain grateful to the Iacobelli family for their generous $1 million donation, which kickstarted this fundraising effort,” said Penny Bellhouse, ESHF Executive Director. “We are hopeful other community members will continue to come forward to support this critical service.”
As Erie Shores HealthCare continues to evolve its services, the hospital remains committed to providing excellent patient care, innovative solutions, and improved outcomes for patients in Essex County and beyond.
