For many seniors, remaining independent significantly enhances their quality of life. The ability to age in the comfort of their own home allows them to maintain control over their daily lives, surrounded by the familiarity of their environment.

South Essex Community Council’s Lend A Hand program supports seniors who want to stay in their homes but may need a bit of support to do so.

The Lend A Hand program is available to low-income seniors, 55 years or older and who reside in Kingsville, Leamington or Wheatley.  Eligibility is determined by an assessment conducted by SECC.

For eligible seniors, services that are available include:

• Light housekeeping (kitchen/bathroom wipe down, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting)
• In-home laundry and bedding changes
• Garbage/recycling collection and snow removal
• Yard work (trimming, raking, mowing)
• Assistance in navigating and accessing other community services

The Lend A Home program relies on community volunteers to operate.  Volunteering is open to all ages: youth, seniors and families. For those who are 18 years of age and older, a Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Volunteers receive tailored training and ongoing support as well as flexible scheduling.  For yard work, supplies are provided.
