Leamington Council Matters – August 13, 2024

At the Leamington Council meeting of Tuesday, August 13, 2024, Council:

  • Deferred consideration on an application to create a surplus dwelling lot located at 2219 County Road 14 and rezone the severed lot and the retained parcel to the August 27, 2024, meeting of Council.
  • Approved an application to allow for a mixed-use building while preventing a standalone commercial building and allowed for the addition of provisions that set the maximum density in certain residential zones to 120 units per gross hectare.
  • Authorized an engineer’s report that recommended changes in assessment to the Essex Kent Townline Drain and Rutter Drain for parcel 550-05300.
  • Appointed Don Williamson as the Fire Chief and Derrick Clark and Russ King as Deputy Fire Chiefs for the Municipality of Leamington.
  • Approved an agreement with Switzer-Carty Transportation Inc. to provide transit services in the Municipality of Leamington.
  • Awarded the contract for the Southwest Leamington Storm Water Management Pond and Pump Station to J&J Lepera Infrastructures Inc. in the amount of $3,965,000 plus applicable taxes and allocated contract administration expenditures of $440,000 to Dillon Consulting Inc.
  • Entered into a Sister City relationship with Yecheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Republic of Korea for the purposes of promoting cultural, educational, technological and economic development.
  • Exempted Destiny Estates Phase 3 from the provisions of Part Lot Control to enable developers to construct townhomes and semi-detached dwellings on a property and establish property lines that align with the placement of shared walls.
  • Appointed Mayor Hilda MacDonald as proxyholder for the Municipality of Leamington to cast its shareholder votes at the Union Water Supply System Inc. shareholders’ annual meeting and appointed Deputy Mayor Larry Verbeke as the alternate proxyholder.
  • Authorized Leamington Fire Chief Don Williamson to be appointed as the Emergency Worker Center Manager in the Town of Amherstburg.
  • Re-entered into the Municipal Funding Agreement for the Canada Community-Building Fund.
