Shirley Lowes
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Tate Lowes on July 11, 2024. Shirley shared a remarkable 64 years of marriage with her husband Ken Lowes (2022). Loving mother to her three children: Jon (Carol), Richard (Kris), and Sharon (Ron Jones).
Shirley was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: Lucas, Rebecca, Amanda, and Dylan. Shirley was predeceased by her brothers, Alan (Edie), Laurie (Betty), and her sister, Joan (Reg Worster). She is also fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews both here and abroad.
Born on September 30, 1933, in London, England, Shirley went on to become a registered nurse and midwife, trained at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. At the age of 24, she arrived in Canada, where she began her nursing career in Windsor at Metropolitan Hospital. She later was a nurse at Leamington Hospital and Leamington Medical Centre.
Returning to University after raising three children, Shirley received her qualification in Public Health Nursing and worked in Windsor and Essex County as well as Kent County in Public Health and VON. She made significant contributions to her community through her kind, compassionate and professional care.
Shirley was an active member of her church, singing in the choir and as a member the Women’s group supporting charitable initiatives first in Leamington and later at the Church of Epiphany in Kingsville.
In addition to her professional achievements and church involvement, Shirley was a talented artist and quilter. She enjoyed spending time with like minded creatives and fostering life long friendships through the Erie Shores Quilt Guild (past president), Thursday Thimbles, and various painting groups, both as instructor and participant over the years.
Her beautiful creations, whether on paper, canvas, wood or in fabric, brought joy and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to experience them.
Shirley’s warmth, kindness, and creativity touched the lives of many and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and the beautiful works of art she leaves behind.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 11:00 am at the Church of Epiphany, 106 Main St. West, Kingsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Windsor Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation (2220 Kildare Road, Windsor, ON N8W 2X3), Erie Shores Hospice (197 Talbot St. West, Suite 701, Leamington, ON N8H 1N8) or a charity of your choice in Shirley’s memory.
Arrangements entrusted to Kendrick Funeral Home, Kingsville. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.kendrickfuneralhome.com.
Our wish is that people be comfortable in this warm weather and casual attire for the celebration is welcome.
