Eighteen cases of Listeria illnesses have occurred across Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. People became sick between August, 2023 and early July, 2024. At this time there have been two deaths and 13 hospitalizations.
The cause of this illness has been linked to the national recall of plant-based refrigerated beverages. An investigation of the outbreak is ongoing.

Listeriosis is a foodborne bacterial illness that can affect anyone exposed to a contaminated food product, including the recalled products. People over the age of 60, pregnant or immunocompromised are at greater risk of severe illness.
