Leamington Announces 2024 Mayor’s Recognition Award Winners

The 2024 Mayor’s Recognition Awards winners were announced earlier this week at a Special Leamington Council Meeting. This prestigious annual initiative honours individuals, groups, and organizations that have brought distinction and recognition to Leamington.

“The Mayor’s Recognition Awards celebrate the outstanding contributions and achievements of our community members,” said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. “Each of these winners has made a significant impact, reflecting the spirit and dedication that make Leamington a great place to live.”

The 2024 Mayor’s Recognition Awards winners, by category, are:

Distinguished Volunteer Service Recipient: Bob Rumble

– Bob Rumble has been a key figure in youth sports, coaching multiple teams and volunteering for the Leamington Minor Soccer League. His leadership led the Leamington Lightning to a championship season, and his dedication has inspired many young athletes and volunteers.

Community Inspiration Recipient: St. John the Evangelist, Anglican Church, Leamington

– St. John’s Anglican Church volunteers have made a significant impact by preparing and distributing meals and clothing every week. In 2023, they provided nearly 9,600 meals and essential clothing items, supporting the community’s most vulnerable members.

Mayor’s Special Award for Innovation Recipient: John Moran

– John Moran has revitalized Leamington’s waterfront with the successful Onthe42 Summer Concert Series, attracting diverse audiences with various musical genres. His leadership at The Bank Theatre has boosted local arts, bringing in both local and renowned performers, and his efforts for the Leamington 150th anniversary celebration have further enriched the community.

Mayor’s Special Award Recipient: Michelle Fortier

– Michelle Fortier has played a crucial role in transforming The Bank Theatre into a vibrant community hub. Her expertise and dedication to organizing and promoting events, including the Leamington 150th anniversary celebration, has significantly enhanced the cultural landscape of Leamington.

Mayor’s Special Award Recipient (Posthumously): Evelyn Miller

– Evelyn Miller, known for her service and kindness, volunteered for 40 years with Erie Shores Hospice and was deeply involved in community and international missions through Leamington United Church. Her legacy of compassion continues to inspire.

This year, the Municipality received 18 submissions, all evaluated by the Mayor’s Recognition Awards Committee. The selected winners exemplify the best of Leamington, demonstrating remarkable dedication and service.
