Leamington To Introduce Community Safety Zones In Waterfront District

As part of its strategy to improve community safety, the Municipality of Leamington will introduce Community Safety Zones in its waterfront district early in 2024.

What are Community Safety Zones?

Community Safety Zones are specific areas where increased safety measures are applied in locations where public safety is of special concern.

Why are these zones important?

  • Enhanced safety: The zones aim to increase pedestrian safety and decrease accidents.
  • Traffic regulation: To calm traffic flow and increase enforcement in these areas.
  • Community awareness: The zones serve as a reminder for motorists and community members to be more vigilant about safety.

Where will the Community Safety Zones be located?

  • Erie Street: From Conover Avenue to its southern limit.
  • Robson Road: From Erie Street South to Cherry Lane.
  • Cherry Lane: From Robson Road to Bruce Avenue.

Implementation timeline:

The Community Safety Zones will officially be in effect once the necessary signage is installed. We anticipate this will be completed early in 2024.

Enforcement and compliance:

Once the signs are installed, the Ontario Provincial Police will enforce traffic regulations within these zones which include increased fines for traffic violations.

Compliance with these new rules is not just a legal obligation but a crucial aspect of ensuring community safety.
