Kingsville Community Food Bank’s December Needs

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas … Well, there’s no snow yet but it’ll come. December is a month crammed full of special occasions of all kinds. You might be observing (and spending money on) Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah, or other celebrations … maybe some of you will even be celebrating Festivus. There’s a reason this month is called the Holiday Season.

Lots of fun? You bet! But there are headaches and heartaches for those who can’t afford it. There are parties and gifts and special treats and meals for all these celebrations and more. And the dollar signs keep piling up. For some people, money isn’t stretching far enough for the essentials let alone to cover this very expensive month.

Some will be wide awake the night before Christmas out of excitement. And some will have had sleepless nights because they’re worried about how to pay for it all, and feeling guilty about everything they had to cut out this year.

The Kingsville Community Food Bank is here to help those who are in need. Their volunteers are dedicated and standing by to bring some relief. And we appreciate those who give so generously in our community.

Here’s a list of items that the Food Bank is looking for in December:

They also welcome gift cards for groceries, products for babies, pet supplies including dog and cat food, laundry and dish detergents, toilet paper, paper towels, and more. Cardboard boxes and cloth bags are always welcome.

If you can help, the Food Bank will thank you for it.

Reverse Advent Calendar

Advent Calendars have been a Christmas tradition for many years. They’re fun for kids and we might just as well admit it, they’re fun for adults too.

With a typical Advent Calendar, you’ll open a little window every day from December 1st to 24th to find a small gift.

Every day, put aside an item of food for your local food bank. By December 25th you’ve got a great donation for people in need in your community.

Another twist on this idea would be to start some time in November so that the food bank gets your donation a few weeks before Christmas.

This will help people who depend on their local food bank to make some plans and find some relief before the holiday.

People who need the food bank are already worrying about how they are going to buy gifts and provide holiday foods for their friends and families.

Donating early to the food bank so that these folks can know what they can count on ahead of time may be the best gift you can offer in this Giving time of year.

The Food Bank is located at 18 Division Street North in Kingsville across the street from RBC Bank. You can also use their drop-off bin inside Zehrs, shown in the picture below.
