On Friday, December 22 I set out for an evening adventure at Lakeside Park. There was no sign of snow and I was carrying an umbrella in case of rain. That’s mid-December in Essex County for you.
I wasn’t going to let the possibility of rain stop me. I was on my way to meet up with some of my kids and grandkids for a trip on the Kingsville Express train.
Once we met up, four of us squeezed into the caboose and enjoyed the ride around the park.
The trip was free that evening, thanks to the Migration Community Hall who sponsored train rides for that evening.
Next on our agenda was the pavilion. The volunteers outside and at the door were friendly and welcoming.
We picked up some hot chocolate and cookies, after making a donation to the cup on the table. The musical duo of Mary and Richard were singing Christmas Hits on the stage.
Later we went for a walk through the park looking at all the lights.
We saw some old favourites, some of which have been standing in the Fantasy of Lights for many years. This year there was a new stand-in Snowman which had been donated by the Optimist Club of Kingsville.
Who could resist this photo op? Not us!
Kingsville Express Train Rides took place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings (weather permitting) from late November to December 23.
The Fantasy of Lights Festival continues with great holiday activities until Wednesday, January 3, 2024. There’s still time to make the trip!

Kingsville Music Society paid for and organized the 3 Fridays of holiday music during Fantasy of Lights. It was a great addition to the other festivities happening during Fantasy of Lights!
Kingsville Music Society is an Ontario registered not for profit, since 2013, raising money to provide music experiences to all ages throughout the year. The Society provides scholarships to area graduating high school students, too!
