On Friday, November 17, the Lions Club of Kingsville proudly presented a cheque in the amount of $35,000 to the Town of Kingsville. These funds, which were received through a successful application to the Canada Healthy Communities grant program, will be used to install a safe and accessible rubber surface at the new, all-inclusive playground at the Lions Park. This work is expected to be carried out in Spring 2024.
These funds are in addition to the more than $85,000 already raised through very generous community donations to the Lions Play It Forward Campaign of 2021-2022 and which were used for the purchase of the accessible playground equipment.
At Friday’s cheque presentation, a large delegation from the Town of Kingsville was in attendance. This included Mayor Dennis Rogers, Deputy Mayor Kim DeYong, Councillors Thomas Neufeld and Sheri Lowrie, Fire Chief Jason Suchiu and Courtney Godfrey, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities.
Mayor Rogers thanked the Lions Club for their financial contributions which have helped to make the all-inclusive playground a reality. He noted the very important role that the Lions Club has played in Kingsville for more than 90 years.
Lions Club Past President Joan Cope was asked to say a few words. She expressed happiness for the Lions’ partnership with the Town of Kingsville. She highlighted the generosity of community donors who contributed $89,000 and who made the playground a reality.
She also expressed thanks to the Canada Healthy Communities Grant Initiative and to the Essex-Windsor Community Foundation for awarding $35,000 to the Kingsville Lions Club for this initiative.
The playground is nearing completion and a “soft opening” will soon be announced by the Town, while the grand opening is planned for next spring.
The Lions Park is located at 53 Mill Street West in Kingsville.
