Kingsville Fire and Rescue is proud to announce Fire Prevention Week from October 8th to 14th, 2023. This week is dedicated to raising awareness about fire safety and educating the public on how to prevent fires in their homes and workplaces.
Cooking Safety Starts with YOU!
Did you know that cooking-related fires are one of the leading causes of house fires across Ontario? In fact, every year, there are 5-6 cooking-related fatalities, over 100 cooking-related injuries, and over $30,000,000 in property damage in the province.
Don’t let it happen to you! Follow these simple steps to ensure your safety in the kitchen.
- Have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside sleeping areas
- Create a fire escape plan and practice it with your family
- Keep flammable items away from heat sources
- Use extension cords safely and do not overload outlets
- Keep your stove and oven clean and free of grease buildup
- Never leave cooking unattended
- Keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and know how to use it
- Never smoke indoors or near flammable materials
- Do not use damaged or frayed electrical cords
- Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children
Kingsville Fire Open Houses
To help spread the word about fire safety, we are hosting open houses at both our North Station in Cottam and South Station in Kingsville on October 11th from 6:30 – 9:00 pm.
Come meet your local firefighters, learn fire safety tips, and see the fire trucks up close. We look forward to seeing you there!
