Volunteers from The Rotary Club of Kingsville Southshore joined the Rotary Clubs of LaSalle Centennial, Windsor-WIDE, and Windsor-St. Clair on Sunday, donning gloves, goggles and masks. They sanded, drilled, branded and stained wood to build 27 bed frames for children who need them in Windsor/Essex.
The international organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is concerned about a real community problem of child bedlessness, dedicating its resources and manpower to building, assembling and delivering bunk beds to children in need.

“No Child Sleeps On The Floor In Our Town” is the SHP motto. Their goal is to provide each child with a comfortable bed to improve their sleep quality and restore dignity to families.
As we would all agree, children having a good night’s sleep is critical to their health and well-being.
The local chapter states that in our county of Windsor – Essex there are approximately 95,000 children. Using 2% as our need factor, we see that there are approximately 1,900 children that need beds in our community.
In two years of building beds 346 had been built prior to Sunday. Fifty-one children are waiting in the queue.
Each of the four clubs also donated $1,350 which Rotary International will match, to buy 62 bed sets which include mattresses, linens, pillows and blankets.

Rotary is a “global network of 1.4 million neighbours, friends, leaders and problem solvers. Rotary members believe that we share a responsibility to improve our communities and beyond.” https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary
