Kingsville Art Wall Display:
This month the art display will be all about quilts. The Kingsville Branch is pleased to feature Sandra Walker’s works for the month of September.
Sandra has had a love of sewing and most hand crafts her entire life. She came by it honestly — her maternal nana was a seamstress and knitter, and her paternal grandma won awards with her fine crochet lacework.
However, no one was a quilter!
She wasn’t either until 1995 when a fateful entry into a “make a block, enter that block and possibly win all the blocks” draw at her local tiny fabric shop saw her do just that — win all the blocks. That meant she had to learn just how to put them into a quilt.
Dressmaking and home decor sewing fell to the wayside as quilting took over her life.
Her designs have been published in several magazines. She has sewn, and does sew, for a few different fabric companies. Designing and sewing quilts is quite an accomplishment. And then to have them published in magazines is amazing!
The bright pink and orange baby quilt “Tinker Toys” is in the current issue of Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting. Another upcoming design will be in the November issue of Make Modern.
