Jr Girls Powerhouse Greys Wrap up a Great Season

The Powerhouse Greys opened the Tier 1 championship against tournament favourite, Leamington Pier-C.

The Greys jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off hits from Wark, Isabella, Mia and a fielders-choice RBI off the bat of Jasmine.

Unfortunately, the bats of Pier-C were just a bit too much for these girls with the can-do attitude, eventually falling 23-4. But everyone agreed the four runs the Greys scored were the best of the bunch!

There were some great highlights though, including a masterful defensive performance by Kylie who assisted on all 3 outs in the bottom of the 4th. Jasmine pounded out a lead-off HR at the top of the same inning. Wark recorded three hits, Tori and Kylie had 1 each and Kenzie, fresh off a successful week at camp, recorded a hit herself.

All the girls hit the ball well and if not for some exceptional defensive plays by Pier-C all of them would have reached base. Gold Glove winners were Kylie, Riley, Woody, Tori, Kenzie and Isla.  All five girls made great plays in the infield.

In a do-or-die game 2 against Essex, the Grey’s came out swinging and put up 5 in the first inning. Essex would answer back and this is how it would go over the next 6 innings, with the score changing hands several times.

Ultimately, the Greys would come up a tad short in a 20-17 nail-biting loss.

Woody and Jasmine both had 4 hits, with Jasmine hitting an absolute bomb for her second home run in as many games. Mia, Tori, Kylie and Kenzie all had 3 hits, Wark, Riley, Hailey and Bria each had a pair with Isabella and Isla recording hard singles.

Not one girl struck out and all of them hit the ball hard. Only Essex’s stellar defense prevented the Greys from scoring more runs.

Gold Glove winners were Bria who did a great job behind the plate and fielding several balls as the pitcher, Kylie, who again made several outs in the pitching position and Lily Wood who was stellar at shortstop, pitcher and second base.

And that’s a wrap folks! Thanks to all who followed along to a very successful 2023 Jr Girls Fastpitch season!

As a personal note, I would like to thank my assistant coaches Jon, Rob and Kevin. I couldn’t have done it without you.

To the parents, thank-you for being so supportive, encouraging the girls and driving them to and from games throughout a hectic Summer.

And finally to the girls – Bria, Hailey, Isabella, Isla, Jasmine, Kenzie, Kylie, Lily Warkentin, Lily Wood, Mia, Riley and Tori; what a terrific group of kids!

Every one of you brought your positivity, enthusiasm and determination to each and every game and practice. You all improved so much throughout the season to the point where the coaches barely had to coach much at all.

But the best part of this group is that you are all bona fide great kids; polite, kind and supportive of your teammates. Your parents should be very proud of what amazing young ladies you are.

Having coached several teams at various levels over the past 15+ years, this season was easily one of the most enjoyable I’ve had the benefit of being a part of. It was a delight and privilege to be your coach this season.

I hope all of you continue to contribute your amazing baseball skills to Kingsville Minor Baseball for many years to come.

Please enjoy the remainder of your Summer!

Sincerely,Coach Henry
