It’s May 31 — It’s Red Shirt Day!

Have you heard of Red Shirt Day? It happens on the Wednesday of National AccessAbility Week every year. This year that date falls on .May 31.

Do you know what Red Shirt Day is all about?

Red Shirt DayTM of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion is a day when you can show your support for those who are living with disabilities. People all across the country come together and wear red in their schools and their workplaces and everywhere they go.

But Red Shirt Day is more than that.

It’s a chance for us to celebrate the achievements of people living with disabilities.

It’s an opportunity to commit ourselves to fostering a fully accessible and inclusive society that will honour and value people of all abilities in all aspects of life.

Take a picture and share it on social media. You can tag @EasterSealsON and include #RedShirtDay and #RedForAccessAbility.

The ultimage goal is to make Canada a truly accessible and inclusive place for people of all abilities.

So wear red today and share some pictures! But don’t stop there.

We can make this a time to pledge to learn about disability issues. We can resolve to do what we can to to remove physical and systemic barriers in the world. And we can be open to overcoming some of our own misconceptions about what it is to live with a disability.
