Canada Day 5KM Run/Walk In Amherstburg on July 1

Dear Editor,

Canada Day has always been a magical day in the town of Amherstburg with the kick off event every year being the Canada Day Run/walk. This year my husband and I discovered that the organizer was no longer coordinating the race and we could not let this tradition disappear.

This year’s event will be completely organized by volunteers. That means 100% of the proceeds will be going to 3 Amherstburg charities: The Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission, Bryerswood Youth Optimist Camp, and Amherstburg Community Services.

We are hoping to keep the momentum going from last year and have at least 500 registrants. The unique part of this race is one of our sponsors is MOVATI gym. They are offering the use of their showers after the race so residents from near and away can clean off and enjoy the rest of the town’s events comfortably.

After the race there will be face painting, Mighty machines, Open Streets, ice cream, street curling, free cupcakes, live music, and of course our traditional fireworks.

The race is chipped timed, and entry gets you a shirt and medal. There is even a Kids Dash to help you burn off their energy.

I truly believe what makes this day special is everyone coming together. We would love to see you out and apart of Amherstburg’s Special Day. You can register online at raceroster.com or go to wrace.org and it is listed under events. We appreciate any support and hope to see you out!

Thanks for listening.

Molly Allaire
