You may have noticed a recent increase in developer-led meetings requesting public input on proposed developments. We want to ensure residents understand this consultation is separate from and before the formal application process.
These are pre-application meetings organized by the developer, with content and proposals that are brand new to Administration. The developer still needs to submit their application to the Town, and Administration still needs to give an opinion on the proposal.
“Many people don’t realize, but once an application is submitted, the Town is under very tight timelines to decide on the application,” said Kingsville’s Director of Community and Development Services, Richard Wyma.
“These timelines are imposed by the Province through the Planning Act and can limit our window for public input, which our community would prefer to extend.”
These pre-application meetings are a good-faith gesture by developers to give citizens an additional opportunity to voice their opinions and ask questions before the application process begins. Once a complete application is submitted, the formal notification and public engagement period will start through the Town.
Residents should look at the contact information to differentiate between pre-application meetings and formal applications.
Developer-led sessions invite comments to the developer directly. Official Town notices invite comments to Town of Kingsville staff and are sent on Town letterhead or through Kingsville’s website news portal.
