Kingsville students of Don Jitsu Ryu put on quite a show this week at their grading ceremony. After just a few months of training, the students of Purple Dragon Kingsville martial arts school participated in their first-ever grading with the founder of the Don Jitsu Ryu system, Grand Master Professor Don Jacob. The Grandmaster studied martial arts under the late Professor Wally Jay who also taught judo and jujitsu to renowned martial artist Bruce Lee.

“I didn’t know what to expect going into my first grading,” said twelve-year-old student, Avery. “I was feeling nervous and excited. It was a great opportunity to meet the Grand Master and watch the black belts perform. Everyone there was very kind and supportive. I can’t wait to learn more.”

Grandmaster Professor Don Jacob was especially impressed by the hard work and dedication demonstrated by all the students. Currently on a grading tour, Kingsville was his third stop in Canada after British Columbia and North York, Ontario before he moved on to New York.

According to one parent, Mike Anapolosky, “All the students should be so proud! They came such a long way in such short time!”

Purple Dragon Kingsville had a soft opening last fall. The dojo’s head, Sensei Anthony Phillips, has trained internationally and has had the honour of studying under the Grand Master.
