Kingsville Times is a proud partner and supporter of the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society. As a non-profit organization, the WECHS depends on the generosity of our community to help pets like Sola, a two-year-old female Spaniel mixed breed.
Sola is a shy girl. Lots of things make her nervous, and she takes time to warm up to new people. But what was found during her spay surgery may explain some of her nervousness — this gentle girl had multiple pellet gun bullets all over her body!
Sola came to us last month from an overwhelmed Texas shelter with the help of BISSELL Pet Foundation, and now she’s ready to start a new life.
“Hello there! My name is Sola and I have been through a lot to get here! First I started out in the sunny state of Texas. Next I flew here to Windsor and found myself in a nice foster home. I am now ready for the next chapter in my life – finding my forever home!
“I am really shy and nervous of new people. But once I get to know them, I am a really sweet and cuddly girl. I am nervous of a lot of things in life — walks, vehicles going by, certain noises, etc. I am really looking for a quiet home and a family who can help gain the confidence I need to really enjoy all of life and it’s adventures.
“Kids? No young ones please. Kids who understand I will need time to warm up, maybe even days, would be OK.
“Dogs? They make me nervous too. Maybe a calm and confident dog would be ok. Cats? Can you guess it?? Yep, scared of them too!
“It is really important that I find the right home. I don’t like being afraid of everything so please, a family who has the time and experience to help me would be the best.
“If you think you have what it takes to be my forever home, fill out an application!”
Sola’s foster parents wanted her next home to know a little bit more about her. Check out what they wrote here:
“Sola really wormed her way into our hearts. For an owner who is willing to put in the time to meet her needs, they will be rewarded with unwavering love and affection, constant downward dogs, adorable webbed toes, and the absolute best cuddles.
“The world is a bit of a scary place for Sola. Anything on wheels is pretty terrifying. She has come a long way on walks. When she first came to us she would not leave the driveway. Now she is happy to walk long distances but does still sometimes have to stop to check that she is safe when scary things like scooters, bikes, or cars go by.
“Sola is cautiously curious of new people if they can move at her pace. Any unpredictable or quick movements from people she does not know and trust are scary for her. Other dogs are pretty scary and Sola will need some support to learn how to interact positively with her peers.
“Squirrels and cats are pretty great to chase so you do need to keep a firm grip on her leash in case she unexpectedly runs into one of these furry curiosities.
“Sola takes a little while to warm up to her people but when she does she is incredibly affectionate. We were always greeted with great excitement when we returned home. Sola is still learning that not everyone likes their greetings in the form of jump ups. Long periods of time at home made Sola a bit anxious and neighbours did report some howling (the apartment dweller beware).
“Sola would get a serious case of the dog zoomies after periods of stress such as time being home alone or going on car rides. For these sorts of moments, having access to a fenced in yard would be really beneficial, as she loves to zoom around.
“Sola is a testament to the incredible resilience of the doggy spirit. Despite the world giving her many reasons to be fearful, she is so full of love and affection. We feel very lucky to have met her and got to be a part of her journey.”
