Libro Credit Union through the Libro Annual Grants has provided a $20,000 cheque to the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Foundation (WECAF) for the establishment of a Mobile Food Enrichment Program.
Through a partnership with Lee & Maria’s of Kingsville, the program will support the nutritional needs of youth living independently. The program will provide a box of fresh foods per month to 34 youth transitioning out of the care of the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society and living independently. Youth will be able to select the foods of their choice on-line.
These youth face challenging circumstances including access to food. The project aims to ensure a reliable food source is available for youth in need. Research indicates that a balanced healthy diet including fresh foods promotes good mental and physical health as well as encouraging motivation and enhanced self-confidence.
Libro Credit Union and WECAF were at Lee & Maria’s at 692 Seacliff Drive, Kingsville on October 5 to celebrate this innovative new program.
