Local Rowers Repping the 519 at Two Regattas This Month

Windsor-Essex will be well-represented at two rowing regattas this month, as the LaSalle Rowing Club (LRC) sends nine athletes to compete at the Western Invitational Regatta on Saturday, September 24, in London, Ontario, and 22 athletes to the Head of the Trent Regatta in Peterborough, Ontario, the weekend of October 1st.

The LaSalle Rowing Club Junior crew will be facing off against crews from seven different rowing clubs and Universities in Southern Ontario, including Brock, McMaster, Nipissing, and Western Universities at the Western Invitational Regatta, which boasts 104 different entries for 22 events on the 2000m, flat water course.

LRC athletes of all ages – from 16 to 71 years old – will race the Head of the Trent’s nearly 5km long course on the Trent-Severn Waterway. This two day event boasts 577 race entries from almost 60 different rowing clubs across Canada.

This is the second year that the LaSalle Rowing Club has sent athletes to these regattas, as the club pushes to re-establish its competitive programming after nearly two decades of mostly recreational rowing. “This year competitive programming for both youth and adult athletes has doubled, showing that LaSalle Rowing Club has the momentum and the drive to become a household name in competitive rowing,” said club President Doug Diet.

The LaSalle Rowing Club is the only rowing club in Windsor-Essex. It offers a wide range of programming to the Windsor-Essex community, including Learn to Row programs, Indoor rowing programs, recreational and competitive rowing opportunities. The club has proudly been rowing on the Detroit River since 1970.

The LaSalle Rowing Club is located at 1 Laurier Drive, LaSalle, Ontario.
