The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup, Essex Region Conservation Authority, and the Windsor Port Authority will be hosting an environmental tour of Windsor’s Sandwich community on Tuesday August 23 2022 from 6pm to 8pm.

“The Detroit River has a vibrant environmental story of ecosystem recovery through partnerships and local action,” said Tom Henderson, Public Advisory Council Chair for Detroit River Canadian Cleanup. “This is a great opportunity to connect to the river’s natural heritage and learn from those implementing on-the-ground projects.”

The walking tour will highlight a variety of environmental and natural heritage projects that have been implemented through the Remedial Action Plan and initiatives such as community clean-ups and the Triple Tree Impact Project that have been funded through the Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits Plan. Interpreters will begin and end the tour at McKee Park at 3206 Sandwich Street, Windsor, ON, where public parking is available.

The tour length is approximately 1.6km, and the route is accessible for those needing mobility aids. The tour is free, and pre-registration is required. This experience is available to the first 25 registrants. To sign up and learn more visit https://sandwichenvironmentaltour2022.eventbrite.ca.

Funding for the Sandwich Environmental Tour has been provided by the Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits Plan.

The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup implements the Remedial Action Plan on behalf of a community-based partnership between the government (federal, provincial, municipal), local industries, researchers, environmental organizations, and citizens working together to protect, restore, and enhance the Detroit River ecosystem.

Since 1973, Essex Region Conservation has been enriching and sustaining the Windsor-Essex County-Pelee Island region as the Place for Life.

The Windsor Port Authority is a Federal agency created in 1999 under the provisions of the Canada Marine Act. Port Windsor will be the catalyst that transforms the future of the Windsor-Essex region as a hub of integrated international transportation.
