Michael Glass is the fourth generation of the Glass family to call Kingsville home. His great grandparents immigrated here in the 1930’s to provide their family with a better life.
Michael was born in Leamington where he spent most of his early life. He moved to Kingsville when his parents returned there in 1998. After marrying his wife Ana (Gandaio), they decided to build their home in the beautiful town of Kingsville. They had come to the realization that Kingsville was the community in which they desired to raise a family. They have been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters. Fifteen-year-old Sofia attends Kingsville District High School, while thirteen-year-old Kayla and nine-year-old Brihana are students at St. John de Brebeuf in Kingsville.
Michael has been an active member of First Lutheran Church Kingsville where he has held positions on both Lay Ministry and Outreach committees.
Michael’s dedication as a father has involved him as a volunteer in the Kingsville District High School Advisory Council and as an assistant coach for his daughters’ soccer teams.
Michael has been employed in sales within the local produce industry for the past 20 plus years. His passion for the business has allowed him the privilege of being part of the International Fresh Produce Association Engagement Committee.
If elected to Council, Michael promises to work diligently with and on behalf of his constituents. His desire is to work within council to:
- Promote both a short- and long-term formal plan for future growth of our community. Let’s keep Kingsville beautiful. We can obtain this by continually planning for future growth and expansion. Growth must be planned for with dedicated areas for residential, business and agricultural development, at the same time being aware of traffic flow, affordable housing, sufficient parks, green areas and waterfront development.
- Fiscal Responsibility. Michael wants to make certain that our tax dollars are effectively being spent where needed. Every taxpayer in the community of Kingsville should know where their tax dollars are being spent. During these high inflation times, tough decisions will need to be made to reduce spending.
- With increased cost due to the pandemic, and with inflation caused by overspending, it will be one of my priorities to work at finding opportunities for affordable housing. We also need make it easier and affordable for businesses to come to our community by reducing the time and cost of obtaining permits.
- Mental Health – Michael intends to work with and encourage our local public boards and committees to provide improved access to care for those suffering from Mental Illness. Although this has been a major issue for years, it has been amplified during the past few years of living through the pandemic. Kingsville needs to provide residents with additional resources for those individuals and families effected by Mental Illness.
These are only a few of the key points that Michael would like an opportunity to address. Michael is looking for input from the community and would like to hear from you, by phone, by email or in person. Feel free to contact him with your thoughts and concerns, or just to have a chat and get to know him.
Michael’s love for Kingsville has him running in this race for Council. He is poised to represent the residents and business owners of this great community with a common sense/do what is right approach. Michael, with his family are vested in this community and ask for the opportunity to be your representative as we grow Kingsville into an even more improved and sustainable community in the future.
