Hundreds of local families participated in the Kingsville Community Centre’s first Children’s Clothing Swap on Saturday, August 6. The Unemployed Help Centre, with donations from Caesars Windsor, contributed three skids of local produce that also went out to the community.

Cottam Candy also generously provided gift cards for free cotton candy.

“We are so happy we could contribute. What an amazing event,” said Amanda Clark, owner of Cottam Candy.

“I am really heartened to see how the community came together for this event,” said Kimberly DeYong, the Kingsville Community Centre’s program director.

“The cost of everything is going up and this is a great example of how we can pull together and support each other.”

DeYong and about a dozen volunteers began several weeks ago in their collecting and organizing donations of thousands of pieces of clothing.

This labour of love took weeks to prepare but the great results made all the work worthwhile.

Parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and neighbours were happy to walk away with bags of clothing on Saturday.

The clothes that remained were donated to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul to further help local families.

“I want to thank all the people who came out and the volunteers who helped make the event possible,” DeYong said.

“I am looking forward to more events like this to help build support for our community.”
