Kingsville Blood Donor Clinic on Wednesday July 20, 2022

The pandemic has created challenges, and Canadian Blood Services needs 100,000 new donors this year in order to meet the needs of patients across Canada. New donor and returning donors are critical to meeting Canada’s future blood needs.

In fact, we’ve lost 31,000 donors during the pandemic, resulting in the smallest donor base in a decade.   Everything Canada’s Lifeline does to help patients in Canada depends on donors.

In addition, the summer months are challenging for us! Donors are often travelling or simply out of their regular routines. That means donors don’t come in to donate nearly as often, and that puts added pressure on Canada’s Lifeline.

One in two people in Canada are eligible to donate blood, but only one in 81 does.  A small group of regular donors is meeting the needs of the entire country, which is unsustainable.

If individuals are interested in booking an appointment.

They can do so by visiting: Blood.ca; or download: GiveBlood app; or call: 1 888 2 DONATE or 1 888 236 6283.
