The Town of Kingsville is holding a Public Open House regarding the Temporary Farm Worker (TFW) Housing Study. The public may attend in person or virtually.
Date: Wednesday, June 8, 2022
Location: Grovedale Arts & Culture Centre / Virtually
Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Kingsville is looking at how we provide housing to the temporary foreign farm workers who arrive in our community each year. As the number of workers rises, we understand that new solutions are required to ensure all workers are provided with sufficient and safe housing.
The study focuses on TFW housing as a land use, and includes a review of all federal, provincial, County of Essex and Town policy and regulatory requirements, and included consultation with the greenhouse industry, organizations who support greenhouse workers, and Council. The study’s outcome will be a report and recommendations for Council, including potential revisions to the Town’s Official Plan and Zoning By-law.
Public Open House:
The Public Open House is an informal opportunity for the public to understand the purpose and goals of the study and ask questions of Town staff and the consulting team from WSP hired to assist the Town. We are seeking input and feedback on several options developed through the background work of the study, and the Open House will include informational materials.
Next Steps:
A Council Meeting regarding a final recommended Report and potential Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment will be held separately in early Summer 2022. We will provide additional notification in advance of this date. The Public Meeting offers an opportunity for Council to receive input from the public and stakeholders before they adopt amendments. When Kingsville Town Council adopts amendments, we will forward them to the County of Essex for final approval.
