April 6th is National Tartan Day! Did you know that Essex County has its own tartan?

It was designed in 1983 by Mrs. Edythe Bakes of Leamington. The colours represent specific aspects of Essex County:

~ Golden yellow for sunshine and the rich agriculture

~ Green for the many fields found across the county

~ Blue for the blue skies and waterways

~ White represents salt mines and fish in the rivers and lakes

~ Black showcases the automotive industry

~ Red represents tomatoes and other fruits such as apples
