Kingsville is declaring a Significant Weather Event in anticipation of heavy snowfall expected Wednesday, February 2, 2022, to Friday, February 4, 2022. Environment Canada projects total snowfall to reach 30 – 45 centimetres over 48 hours. The forecast also calls for winds gusting from 50 – 70 kilometres per hour.
“We’ve been watching the forecast closely, and we’ve put a strategy in place to address roads and sidewalks quickly and efficiently,” said Manager of Public Works and Environmental Services, Shaun Martinho. “But with that much snow within a couple of days, we just don’t have the staff or equipment required to clear it within our standard timelines.”
During a Significant Weather Event, all roads and sidewalks maintained by the Town are considered to be in a “state of repair.” Drivers and pedestrians should use appropriate caution when travelling during this event and avoid unnecessary travel if possible.
“Our crews will continue to work diligently to ensure public safety,” said Martinho, “but maintaining roads and sidewalks may take longer than normal. Our operators work long days during winter snow events like this one, and pushing snow is challenging. Please have patience during this time.”
The Town also warns residents that the Town’s Winter Control Policies are in full effect, and the OPP is preparing to issue tickets to any vehicles parked on the street between midnight and 6 a.m. Please move vehicles and any portable items out of the path of the plows.
If you cannot find alternate parking, visit www.kingsville.ca/planforsnow to see a map of municipal parking lots close to you. You will also find helpful information about how the municipality prioritizes snow removal by road class.
The Town will provide updates as changes occur and advise when the Significant Weather Event is over.
