Dinah Friesen (December 23, 1928 – January 30, 2022)

Dinah Friesen

Our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Dinah Hiebert Friesen was born to Frank and Katrina Hiebert at Swalwell, Alberta on Dec. 23, 1928. She peacefully passed away on Jan. 30, 2022.

Mom grew up in a family of eleven girls and two boys. She loved singing and you could often hear her singing as she worked. Mom was baptized by Minister Albert Unruh on April 15, 1942 becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite.

She was a joyful, cheerful Christian. She spread God’s love around in many small, but meaningful ways her entire life. Her thankful, optimistic attitude inspired her grandchildren and others, to follow in her footsteps.

April 2, 1950 Mom was united in marriage to her childhood sweetheart, William Friesen. They shared sixty-six precious years together. Their home was blessed with two sons and one daughter. She always liked to tell people that she had never left Alberta till after she was married. Her love for travelling grew with all the places Dad took her.

Her contagious laugh and always being ready to listen gave her a large circle of friends. No one was a stranger to Mom and she always had a peppermint or candy in her pocket to give to someone.

In 2006 Mom and Dad moved to Leamington. They enjoyed their home on Cottonwood until they moved to a retirement home. After Dad passed away in 2016, Mom lived with Lois.

Those left to cherish fond memories are her children, Charles and Ethelyn, Eden MB, Lois, Leamington ON, Maynard and Audrey, Leamington, ON, nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Siblings, Helen Unruh, Mildred and Claude Wiebe and Bennie Hiebert. She filled a special place in southern Shores Congregation and was Grandma to many.
