Local Scout Ava Malott Earns Her North Star Award Helping Kittenaide

Marlene Buis (Kittenaide foster) and Ava Malott celebrating a successful donation campaign

Ava Malott, a Beaver Scout who is in her fourth year with the 2nd Kingsville Scouts, ran a food and supplies drive this summer for Kittenaide, a local kitten rescue, to earn her North Star Award.

The North Star Award is the pinnacle of the Beaver Scout journey. When a Beaver Scout has completed his or her quest, a celebration is held at which he or she is presented with the North Star Award badge. This award can be earned by White Tail Beaver Scouts, even if they are in their first year in Scouting.

Just last week, Ava was invested into Cubs and delivered the items that she had collected to Marlene Buis, a local foster for Kittenaide.

Ava has a soft spot for all animals. Her best friend is her 13-year-old yellow Lab named Goldie. Ava wanted to collect for Kittenaide as she knows they help a lot of kitten and cats and she wanted to show her support to them.

Ava worked with her mom, Jen Snyder, to set up a Facebook event and they shared it. Ava told all her friends and family about it, as well. She received very generous donations of both wet and dry cat food, toys, litter boxes, food and water dishes, and blankets.

Jen tells us that Ava is very caring and always thinks of and considers others. And for that, Kittenaide sends a hearty thank you to Ava and Jen, whose kind gesture is sincerely appreciated!

A great BIG thank you to Jen Snyder who is raising her 4 children to be “kind & cheerful, considerate & clean and wise in the use of all resources”, as noted in the Scout Motto.
