The Great Migration Paint Out, a part of the Kingsville Migration Festival, challenged artists to paint en plein air and complete at least one canvas in under four days.
The 2nd annual Great Migration Paint Out saw great success, despite blustery weather. The event was a part of the 52nd Kingsville Annual Migration Festival, hosted by the Arts Society of Kingsville.
The Great Migration Paint Out challenges artists to paint en plein air, which literally translates to outdoors. The painters are tasked with completing paintings outdoors, at the mercy of the elements.
The Grovedale Arts and Cultural Centre was home to the 2nd annual Great Migration Paint Out’s showcase gallery on Sunday, Oct. 17.
The Paint Out began on Thursday, Oct. 14 with artists to be found all across the Town of Kingsville. They could be spotted at the lakeside, the shorelines, in front of grand old barns, and amidst beautiful foliage.
On Sunday, Oct. 17 the artists’ work was gathered for a gallery at the Grovedale Arts and Cultural Centre from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The entries were formally judged by Constance Budd. There were several categories.
The painting by Robert Perrish was chosen by Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos. It will be hung in the Town Hall for all to see. Perrish also received the People’s Choice Award.
Overall, Andrea Kubis placed first, Roger Boyle second, and Dawn Lavoie Wolters third.
Andrea Kubis won the Arts Society of Kingsville Award.
The Best Nocturne Award went to Lindsay Longprè. Robert Perrish was chosen for both the Mayor’s Purchase Award and People’s Choice.
The Emerging Artist Joan Cotte Award went to Leanne Hawkins.
The Most Improved Plein Air Artist was Randy Bryan.
The sponsors of the event included Pelee Island Winery, Kingsville Brewery, Town of Kingsville, Arts Society of Kingsville, Capri Pizza, Dutch Boys Chocolate, Ed Roach Branding Experts, the Joan Cotte Arts Endowment Fund, and The Kingfisher Studio.
