Hello Friends. Why is it that some foods are just so much better when they are prepared by a restaurant, or I guess more specifically, not by me? Honestly, I can have all the same ingredients, complete all the steps, and end up with totally unexceptional results.
Nachos are one of these dishes for me. I’ve made them countless times and they always turn out … well, kinda lame.
See photo below:

OK, so this was before I put all the extra toppings on, for dramatic effect.
They really looked like this :

Again, not much better.
Perhaps it is my oven. Yes, let’s go with that.
It’s a new-fangled machine with settings I don’t necessarily understand, and it takes about three days to reach temperature … soo annoying. “Read the manual,” you say? I thought you knew me better than that.
It could be that nachos primarily have been, for me, a desperation snack, which is exactly what you think it is — prepared in desperation with the stuff we’ve got kicking around. Rarely made with any planning, and resulting in a soggy, clotted mess.
Keep in mind, we still eat them. If I’ve taken the time and effort to melt cheese, it’s getting eaten. We don’t enjoy them though.
So as I was looking for another place to review, I decided to try Ian’s Wrap Shack & Nachos in Kingsville, for some nachos that we actually might enjoy.
I ordered the Santa Fe Nachos, add jalapeño but hold the mushrooms, because Steve doesn’t like them. Honestly the things you do for love. I also ordered a Jumbo Chili Cheese Dog, hopefully big enough to share.

Let’s start with the chili dog. It was definitely big enough to share. Mmmmm. Soft, fresh bun, tasty dog smothered with savoury chili and melted cheese. Delicious. I added a thin line of mustard and the result was inspired.
Now to the nachos … they were heaped (and I mean heaped) with toppings, yet still crispy. How is this even accomplished? Loads of cheese, chicken, rice, beans, green onion and tomatoes with the added jalapeños … wow.
Touché Steve, I didn’t even miss the mushrooms.
Served with sour cream and salsa for dipping … yes please! Steve and I ate continuously until all that remained was the box they came in.

Thank God I had on my stretchy pants.
And thank you, Ian’s Wrap Shack & Nachos, for the next-level nachos and tasty dog. Perhaps someday soon you will be craving some next-level nachos, and with that will come the realization that making them yourself is not the best option.
Why waste perfectly good cheese, when you can head to Ian’s Wrap Shack & Nachos for some nachos you actually will enjoy?

You should have tried a wrap. They are excellent and Ian’s has the best fries in town! I just hope everyone is wearing masks inside.
