Astrid Tobin is an accomplished mosaic and fused glass artist, producing intriguing, beautiful and whimsical mosaic and fused glass art, jewelry, yard creations and more.

Here is part of Astrid’s wonderfully rich art story:

“I grew up in a large family where we just gravitated toward creative activities … everything from building things to putting on plays. It wasn’t a ‘loud’ sort of creative life; but looking back I can see how much we influenced and encouraged one another.

“In fact, we still do so to this day! In 2002, while recovering from an illness, I began to focus on extreme self-care. Art became a very large part of that process. I began with mosaics and loved the idea of bringing new life to broken things. It paralleled what I saw as my own journey. I then began to explore all things glass.

“My husband, Peter, joined me on many of these explorations. We had fun taking lampworking, stained glass and fused glass workshops. Today, I work mainly in fused glass and mosaics. I live a life of curiosity, so I am always exploring other ways to learn to express myself.

“Through this process, I have added gardening, sketching and painting to my other artistic endeavors. I have also become a certified yoga teacher.”

Astrid is also a great community partner. She has been an active member and leader in the Arts Society of Kingsville (ASK) since the day she and a number of other art enthusiasts created the group over a glass of wine at Vern’s in 2013.

She notes, “I am very grateful that Kingsville has such a warm and welcoming group of artists/writers/musicians/woodworkers, and other artists who have been a large part of my own journey into art … encouraging and teaching me along the way.”

Astrid is most recently part of the Town of Kingsville and Communities in Bloom “Nature Journal Club.” She has found it a wonderful way to connect love of nature with art and, best of all, to connect with like-minded people.
