Hello readers, let’s talk about breakfast. I’ll confess I have a complicated relationship with this meal … not because I don’t love it. Au contraire. It’s just because my love is not reciprocated.
Far from it. Bread, pancakes, muffins, croissants, pastries, doughnuts … and … sniff … crepes all despise me. Gastrointestinally. Despite my deep and endearing love for them. So, the complicated part becomes what to eat for breakfast while watching Steve eat whatever he wants with gusto, and without consequence.
“But Jo,” the astute among you may proclaim, “ you’ve written reviews about pizza, pasta, bruschetta and other foods served on a bun … what gives?”
The short answer to that question is: my willpower. That’s what gives. Frequently. The heart wants what the heart wants.
Steve’s BLT on rye from Gaspard’s Café
Don’t feel too sorry for me though, as I have a sensitivity, not an allergy. Besides, breakfast and I have had a good run. Steve and breakfast, however, are still going strong, and he’s been wanting to go out for a while now. Being the selfless person that I am, I decided to make breakfast the focus of my next review and bring Steve along for his beloved repast.
At this point you may be thinking “Ohhh, what’s she gonna eat?” Or “Will she order the pancakes?”
I’m wondering that myself. Honestly though, it will depend on the day. You see, dear reader, I’ve started this portion of my review ahead of time so we will have to find out what I’ve done, together, day of.
Gaspard’s Café onion rings
Far too early, Day of …
While searching for a place to go, I happened upon a review for a breakfast served at Gaspard’s Café in Leamington. The review said, “Best breakfast I ever had!!!!”
Please note the four exclamation points. I’ll let that sink in a minute. Imagine all the breakfasts you have over a lifetime … that, dear readers, is a bold statement.
Obviously then, we were headed down to Gaspard’s Café in Leamington to see for ourselves.
Jo’s peameal bacon sandwich with cheese
Steve ordered a BLT sandwich on rye and some onion rings, because why not, and I ordered the peameal bacon sandwich with cheese on white. OK, so I did order bread, but I refrained from ordering the pancakes, so I’d call that a success.
Not gonna lie, pretty proud of myself over here.
Steve’s sandwich was laden with fresh tomatoes and bacon and very much enjoyed. He said it was a “well-executed “ sandwich. Mine was also delicious, nicely cooked peameal bacon and lots of melty cheese. Let’s not forget the onion rings, which were crispy and satisfying.
Great value for under $22. Thank you to Gaspard’s Café in Leamington for the excellent breakfast , and for the surprise cookies in our bag! You’ll be seeing us again.
If you are looking for a new breakfast place to try and haven’t been to Gaspard’s Café in Leamington, I’d suggest you check it out. You can enjoy some great food and a walk along the lovely waterfront. Not a bad way to start your day.
