Food for Thought: Kingsville BBQ Review

Happy Spring, readers! … or  BBQ season, as it is known in my house. Despite that last blast of winter we had, I knew Spring had arrived when the unmistakeable waft of BBQ smoke blew by me the other day. Light and ethereal.

Why is it the mere hint of BBQ smoke in the air can induce in me such intense and persistent cravings for BBQ? I can’t be the only one this happens to … awkward pause … can I ?

No. I refuse to believe that. I cannot be alone in this — the smell is simply too intoxicating. The resulting craving can be so relentless that I have been know to BBQ in the rain or snow — a testament, I feel, to my love of BBQ.

I am a carnivore after all, and thankfully so is Steve. We can both be seen hovering over the grill as I cook, knives and forks aloft, eating as fast as it’s cooking, till there’s nothing left for the plate. Barbaric, yes I agree, but it cuts down on dishes. It may be that we simply like our meat a bit more on the rare side than most folks.

More than this, though, I also feel it is a sin to overcook meat. At the risk of sounding preachy — an animal died for my dinner. The least I can do is not cremate it. Let’s just say I have a reverence for meat, and the animal it came from.

So, with the BBQ breezes blowing and my tummy rumbling, I decided to go light our grill and get cookin’. However, much to my chagrin … Arghhhh no propane ! A rookie mistake.

At this point I decided to reevaluate my options which were:

1) go get more propane, lugging the heavy, awkward tank to and fro, thus risking injuries too numerous to mention here
Or
2) pop into Kingsville to a place I’d been wanting to try for a while now — Kingsville BBQ

No need to be coy about what I did. You already know.

I ordered pickle chips and a beef brisket sandwich with fries to share with Steve. Unfortunately, and quite stupidly on my part, I was pretty full from the bag of chips I had eaten in the car on the way to Kingsville.

I regretted this decision all the way home as the aroma coming from the bag smelled amazing. I was tempted to claw it open like a wolverine, but I didn’t, primarily because I remembered I needed to photograph the food first.

I barely had time to do this before the brisket sandwich started disappearing behind Steve’s beard. It was amazing! Well cooked, meaty, smoky, tender, juicy perfection. Steve, not typically a brisket guy, said it was the best he’d ever tasted.

The pickle chips were lightly breaded, tangy slices of joy. My only criticism would be of myself for not having enough room for a full brisket sandwich of my own. We live and we learn. I suppose this is what you would call a natural consequence.

Thanks to Kingsville BBQ for an amazing brisket sandwich that fulfilled my craving for BBQ.

Perhaps some day soon you will be under the influence of a BBQ breeze, perhaps you will also be out of propane and not inclined to do anything about it. In that event, I’d head to Kingsville BBQ for all of the flavour and none of the work.

  1. Omg love Beef Brisket. Thank you for the tip also I didn’t even know Kingsville BBQ existed. If anyone goes to KW be sure to stop in at the White Rabbit they two have an amazing Beef Brisket..

  2. Betsey Sabara

I ordered the Mac and Cheese as a side for my order of ribs(they were yummy), and kept it for lunch the next day. What a wonderful surprise! The smoked flavour was amazing and with a bit of the barbecue sauce made it the best ever Mac and Cheese.
