WINDSOR-ESSEX, ON (April 13th, 2021) – The Windsor Essex County Humane Society (WECHS) is excited to announce the launch of its first-ever online 50/50 lottery. The lottery began on April 5th and runs through April 30th.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.windsorhumane5050.ca for a chance at winning 50 percent of the jackpot – with the winner taking home half of the total raised.

“We’ve never done this type of lottery before,” says Melanie Coulter, Executive Director of WECHS. “Our team continues to pivot, and with COVID-19 restrictions in place for a full year now, our avenues for raising money have been limited. With this new lottery format, everything is done virtually. Our supporters in Windsor Essex have a chance to win a big jackpot – while giving animals in need a second chance.”

The grand prize will be drawn on April 30th 2021 during a FaceBook live stream and the winning ticket will take home 50 percent of the total jackpot. The remaining proceeds will go towards programs and services WECHS continues to operate in the region.

“As we continue to offer our services and programs during COVID-19, we are hoping that this will help us to continue to close the gap in our fundraising because of the pandemic. These services include emergency response, assisting distressed and abused animals (domestic and wild), emergency protective care, pet food bank, and our spay and neuter programs. In 2020 over 10,000 animals came through the doors of our shelter and spay/neuter clinic. Buying a 50/50 ticket is a great way to contribute and support the work we continue to do caring for animals in Windsor Essex.” says Melanie Coulter.

Tickets for the 50/50 draw can be purchased at different price points: 10 tickets for $10, 40 tickets for $20 and 150 tickets for $40. Tickets can be purchased up until 12:00pm EDT on April 30th, 2021.
