Oxley Estate Winery: Making Valentine’s Day Memorable and Fun

Let us help you make Valentine’s Day memorable this year. Sometimes special occasions can be intimidating because you want to show that significant someone in your life that you care deeply for them, but you are afraid that maybe you will mess up on the meal preparation or you are nervous about picking the perfect wine.

We are here to help with both, offering suggestions to make this a wonderful day and help you make some lasting memories.

Let’s start with a savoury Wild Mushroom Barley Risotto, with wilted spinach, honey roasted carrots and sheep’s milk cheese. We suggest pairing it with our 2017 Pinot Noir which has a stunning garnet red hue and has been aged beautifully. One sip will bring you back to nature.

Cedar, violets and roses are in the air, as your palette enjoys dried cranberries, Bing cherries and a little zing of clove and pepper. The earthiness of both the Risotto and the Pinot Noir make this a wonderful pairing.

Next we have a Truffle Roasted Chicken with buttermilk, thyme and lemon. This dish has a little earthiness from the truffle as well as a little zip with the lemon and thyme. Perfect for a cozy meal for two. A delicious Chardonnay works well for such a dish. We have two different Chardonnays in house. Both would be amazing with this meal.

Our 2018 unoaked Chardonnay is full of fruit flavours such as Honeycrisp apple, pineapple, apricot and lemon zest with just an inkling of jasmine on the palette with magnificent minerality and acidity.

Our other Chardonnay, a 2018 oaked wine called ‘Toast of the Town’ has aromas of snap peas, ripe corn field, campfire and lemon wood. The oak is very light with a slight caramel flavour. Either wine will be fantastic with this juicy chicken dish.

Our third meal suggestion is a Bone in Beef Short Rib with roasted garlic and ‘Regent’ jus. A succulent dish perfect for a yummy red wine. We recommend our Ripper Red. The Ripper is a red blend unique to our vineyard with aromas of blueberry, orchid, sandalwood, sage, dark cherry, blackberry and leather. It is bold and beefy enough to hold its own with this meal.

Now Valentine’s Day would not be complete without something chocolate. We suggest a luscious, flourless Chocolate Ganache and Sponge Toffee Cake. This rich deep chocolate cake would pair beautifully with a Cabernet Merlot.

Our 2017 Cabernet Merlot has aromas of raspberry and cracked pepper on the nose. The generous palette delivers the mouth-filling flavour of dark chocolate covered cherries with delicate hints of vanilla and rose hip. The perfect ending to a beautiful day.
