Spotlight on Business: Whisked Bake Shop

When Ana Teresa El Barche opened her Whisked Bake Shop in 2015, she was well prepared and ready to go. Before she’d moved to Canada, Ana had worked with her parents in their family-owned bulk food business, similar to the Bulk Barn here in Canada.

Her family offered custom cakes and desserts for every occasion. Her mother was in charge of this side of the family business. Ana says she learned everything she knows by working closely with her mother.

The Kingsville Times recently interviewed Ana about the Whisked Bake Shop.

Kingsville Times:
How would you describe your services and products?

Ana Teresa El Barche:
Each order is created with great care and attention to detail. This is why I ask for orders to be made well in advance. A lot of work goes into the initial stages of planning and I think it shows in the final product.

What is your business motto?

The sweetest treat is a satisfied costumer!

What advice would you give to others who might be considering starting a business?

It’s a slow process and I think it should be. Especially in the food service industry. Take your time, and focus on quality. Anyone can work quickly, but quality work takes time and patience. This same quality will fuel your business for as long as you maintain it.

Who are your target clients?

Anyone who needs baked goods or cakes for any and all occasions.

What do your clients say about your business?

I am thankful for each and every client. Their words of encouragement are always uplifting and inspirational.

What are your plans for business growth? New services or products that clients can look out for?

What I like about being a baker is the freedom to create new and exciting products, taking time to perfect new and old ideas, and adding a unique spin on existing products.

How has COVID-19 affected your business and what have you done to COVID-proof your business?

It’s no secret that COVID caused a lot of trouble for local businesses but people are resilient. People still want to celebrate their accomplishments. We have some of the best people around who understand the importance of supporting local businesses and we are beyond grateful for living in such a great community.

To make sure our products remain available to our clients we have started to offer contactless delivery and pick up and it’s been going very well!
