Dear Church Family,
Here we are, almost through January 2021. We pray that all of you are doing well navigating the lockdown. Know that your First Baptist Church Board of Directors prays for you and wants to support and encourage you in any way we can. Given it has been many months since some of us have seen each other and that with the start of a new year comes a new Board of Directors we thought it would be good to share just a little of who we are with you.
Heather Skeates, Chairperson
Heather is loving this part of the race as it has been over 3 years since she retired from working in our church office after a 30-year tenure. Her retirement verse is,
“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”
— Acts 20:24
Heather has loved to sew ever since she was a little girl and now enjoys quilting. She and husband Murray enjoyed their inaugural butterfly garden this summer where they helped almost 50 monarchs fly away. She and Murray are proud grandparents to 10 grandchildren ages 4 – 18.
For some time, Heather has been choosing a word to focus on and right now that word is “connect”. Please feel free to reach out and connect with her through phone, text or email. She would love to connect with you.
Carrie Augustine, Vice-Chairperson
Carrie is married to Paul and they have 2 beautiful daughters, Andrea and Ava. As Andrea prepares to complete her university education this spring and plan an October 2022 wedding, Ava is finishing up grade 12 and considering her options for university in September.
Carrie enjoys helping families with children with special needs in her work at, “Children First” and she is grateful that despite the restrictions, her workplace continues to pivot with the changes and challenges.
At church, Carrie is thrilled when in February (not this past year of course) Miss Laura (Gaffan) hands her the booklet for the upcoming summer Vacation Bible School and she begins to think about all the fun and delicious snacks she and her kitchen crew will provide to the children and volunteers.
Paul is married to his beloved life partner Shirley, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last September. Paul and Shirley have three children, Jonathan and wife, Susan live in Canton, Michigan, Elizabeth lives in Seaforth, Ontario and Jeffrey and wife Christine live in Rochester, Michigan.
Paul received his BME degree from General Motors Institute (now Kettering Eng. College) in Flint, Michigan and worked for GM Canada for 38 years. He retired from the Windsor Transmission Plan in 1995.
As Chairperson of our church’s property committee, Paul is very busy keeping up with maintenance, repairs and management of our buildings.
Dan has been attending First Baptist Church for over 50 years and has served in many different roles over the years. Dan is a very proud father of 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
One of his favourite bible verses is Luke 2:62 where Jesus said
“…No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God”.
This reminds him of times in his past while working on his brother’s farm of how important it was to look straight ahead, not back in order to keep the plough straight and to do his work well.
Dan enjoys camping with his family and as soon as the weather warms up you will find him swinging his golf clubs at Kingsville Golf Course.
Rick is married to Deb and is blessed with 2 children and 6 grandchildren. He loves to praise God through music and song and leads a worship team.
Rick wants you to know that he is a sinner who has been blessed by the redemptive blood shed by his Savior Jesus Christ. He feels Isaiah said it best,
“Woe to me I cried, I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
— Isaiah 6:5.
Rick is a man of unclean lips living among a people of unclean lips, saved by Jesus Christ.
Claudia and her husband, Rob have been married for 16 years and have 2 lovely children, Meghan who is 15 and Aiden who is 11. They have been attending First Baptist Kingsville for 8 years and have found our church to be a source of love, acceptance and tremendous spiritual growth.
Claudia has served in a variety of ministries at FBC and this is her first time as a member of the Board of Directors. She is overjoyed and excited to contribute to the growth of the church in this way.
We, the Board of Directors, look forward to where God will lead us this year and diligently pray to listen and obey His word. We would like to express our gratitude for the ongoing service of Laura Gaffan and Bernice Boose who have been there in a variety of capacities to keep things going as much as possible during this pandemic. A special thank you to Alex Moir who has agreed to continue in the role of Interim Pastor for 2021 until we are able to hire a permanent Pastor.
We rely on you to let us know of needs in our church family and community and you can contact any of the board members or Laura at the church office.
I will leave you with this direction from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17:
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
