Spotlight On Business: My Grind Coffee Co.

While they were out exploring Europe, at one point, Calyn Kir and Mitch Monaco found themselves in an Irish cafe. They enjoyed their time there, sampling coffee selections and as a result an intriguing and exciting idea was born. After the two of them returned home, they teamed up with Jeron Kir to pursue and perfect their great notion. And in June, 2020, My Grind Coffee Co. was established.

The Kingsville Times recently interviewed My Grind Coffee Co. about their business, their motivations and strategies.

“We set out to disturb the coffee industry and give freedom back to the consumer, and allow them to create a coffee special to them,” Monaco told The Times. “We are inspired by the luxury of coffee, and we ‘grind’ toward delivering a transformed coffee experience, one cup at a time.”

The Kingsville Times:

Who are your target clients?

My Grind Coffee Co.:

We hope to appeal to the large-scale coffee lover community but in specific we strive to target young, goal-driven individuals. The people working hard day in and day out, “grinding” towards their dreams. We hope our coffee is a positive reminder that you have the willpower and motivation to get the job done, and My Grind is here to give you that boost.

My Grind targets coffee lovers who are interested in stepping outside their comfort zone of big brand coffee, but making the transition uncomplicated, by offering fresh, tasty coffee delivered right to their door.

We also target businesses and office spaces with wholesale coffee options, as we feel good coffee means happy employees, and happy employees means good work.

KT:

What is your business motto?

MGCC:

“What’s your Grind?”

KT:

How would you describe your services and products?

MGCC:

Billions of people drink coffee every day, but a small fraction understands the nuanced complexities of good coffee. Frankly, that is because coffee is too complicated for the average sipper, and we want to change that. My Grind Coffee Co. aims to deliver premium quality coffee made for any time, feeling or activity, without the confusing coffee terminology.

Each day we are grinding towards supporting our local community and changing the perspective people have on not only coffee but life. Simply, we strive to provide quality coffee that resonates with you and allows you to take on each day with a positive mindset.

My Grind is building up an arsenal of unique blends and flavours as we ultimately aspire to allow coffee lovers to customize their own signature coffee blend catered to their tastes and to support their “grind.”

Along with personalized coffee, My Grind seeks to introduce supplements and coffee additives to truly take the coffee drinking experience to the next level. We offer free delivery to the local area and up to $7.00 in shipping Ontario-wide.

KT:

What advice would you give to others who might be considering starting a business?

MGCC:

Find people who share the same mindset as you, and execute on your ideas. Talking and brainstorming about various ideas is fun and exciting but bringing those ideas to fruition is the pivotal point in making your business ideas a reality.

Another piece of advice is to get as much feedback as you can at all stages of your business journey. It’s easy to get stuck in your head but external thoughts and opinions are a powerful tool to shift your perspective.

Lastly, enjoy the process. So many entrepreneurs and business owners get caught up in the chase for financial success and lose a sense of passion for their business. Make mistakes, learn from each downfall, and always keep propelling forward.

KT:

What do your clients say about your business?

MGCC:

The feedback from our consumers has been very humbling. The support and willingness to try local coffee is truly amazing. We have received a lot of positive reviews on our “Elevate” coffee, which is a maple coconut-flavoured blend. Most are enamored with its tropical-like smell and almost sweet flavour, without having to add cream or sugar.

We hope to break down the pretentious barrier of coffee elitism and allow people to enjoy high-quality fresh coffee without the fear they are doing it wrong.

KT:

How has COVID-19 affected your business and what have you done to COVID-proof your business?

MGCC:

We started our business at the peak of the COVID-19 quarantine. We are an example of using an unfortunate situation and turning the quarantine time into something productive.

All of our order fulfillment is done internally, allowing us to skip the extra step of using delivery companies and pass those cost savings onto our customers.

My Grind operates via e-commerce which eliminates the need to interact face-to-face with consumers to provide our product.

KT:

What are your plans for business growth? New services and products that clients can look out for?

MGCC:

We are now offering wholesale programs for businesses and office spaces. We want people to enjoy great tasting, fresh local coffee during their workday!

We like to offer limited-time seasonal blends to keep people excited for what’s next. (We have some special blends prepared for the holiday season.)

We are in the process of working on offering single-serve Keurig pods, to allow consumers to enjoy My Grind coffee in a quick convenient manner.

Long term, we plan to offer customizable coffee to each individual, based on one’s personal preferences, everything from the name of the blend, to the coffee flavours and grind type. Eventually pairing this with a brick-and-mortar location would be a dream come true.
