In loving memory of Helen Grace (Wiancko) Pearce born on April 23, 1937 who passed away following a short illness on December 2, 2020. Helen was the sixth child of eleven siblings born and raised on a farm in Ponoka Alberta; her grandfather was a founding pioneer that settled this area. Helen joined the Naval Reserve after finishing Bible School in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
The Naval Reserve opportunities took her to Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and finally to Nova Scotia where she married John Pearce of the Royal Canadian Navy and had three daughters, Stormie, Zennie and Angela. Helen was busy raising her children, maintaining a large vegetable garden and holding down a full time job working at CFB Cornwallis.
She volunteered for activities that her daughters were involved in, such as Brownie Leader, a Sunday School Teacher and supervisor when needed. In addition to her many activities, Helen was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many a hot-pant outfit for the family and continued sewing the Fogcutter Hotel uniforms later on.
In 1977 Helen and family moved to Kingsville; another place she found community and called home. Helen worked at the Fogcutter Hotel over several decades in many capacities and moved up into management over the years. She could not walk down the street without stopping to chat with her friends and acquaintances.
One of Helen’s later passions was the game of golf and watching local baseball as well as her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. She was an avid sports fan and liked to voice her opinions on gameplay. She also enjoyed fine dining and a night out at the Casino including shows and entertainment. After retirement from the hotel, Helen continued to volunteer with the Music Festival, various church events and worked as a Crossing Guard for the town of Kingsville.
Helen will be very much missed by Stormie, Ken (Jordan, Thomas, Karey, Alyssa); Zennie, Greg (Matthew, Corey); Angela, Kevin (Kort, Kydan). Helen was predeceased by her sister Myrtle and brothers, John, Harry, Jim, Oscar and Wes. Helen will be missed by her beloved sisters Carole and Esther and brothers Grant and Gordon. Helen leaves behind many friends who she shared special memories and good times with.
Helen’s final wishes were for a simple message about her passing in the Church Bulletin, local newspaper and hometown paper; she did not wish for a funeral. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Heaven called back one of their Angels.
I only knew Helen a short time, 40 years ago, but she made a lasting impression.
Helen, may you have box seats in Heaven while watching your favourite teams!
My condolences to the family and especially to Angie, my dear friend. Helen was a special lady with a special spark and a lot of Joie be vivre and love for her family and friends.
Her spirit lives on…
A Beautiful Obituary for A Beautiful Lady who is missed by her little brother. We know you are having a warm and happy time with your brothers and sister who passed before you. Keep them laughing Helen.
My wonderful beautiful older sister is at peace after a long, fruitful, and beautiful life. She was always positive and welcoming to all who would pass by. Her sense of humour was second to none!
My biggest regret is not reaching out to her more over the years.
RIP Helen, you will be missed
You birthday present brother.
