Windsor/ Essex County – In June 2019, the Windsor/ Essex County Humane Society launched the Rex’s Legacy program to help individuals receiving support from the Ontario Disability Support Program. The program helps qualified pet owners to have their pets spayed or neutered. Recently, the program was temporarily expanded to assist individuals who have experienced job loss due to Covid to also receive wellness care for their dogs and cats, thanks to a generous donation for that purpose. On
November 14, 23 cats and dogs were able to receive needed wellness care (vaccines, microchips, parasite prevention, and spay/neuter in some cases) for only a nominal cost to their caregivers.
The Rex’s Legacy program was launched by Rita and the late Dr. Jay Rampure in memory of their dog Rex. Donations can be made online and applications for support can be found at www.windsorhumane.org.
