RED KELLY OWNED THE LAKEFRONT HOME ADJOINING THE PARK. THIS WAS IN THE LATE 50’S. THE HOME WAS DUE SOUTH OF WHAT WAS THEN JULIANNE’S (SP?) STORE.
In the late 20s and all through the 30s Cedar Island was referred by many as little America as it was the Americans that came over mostly from Detroit to build their summer vacation homes,my grandfather was the third person to build a cottage their and l still have the photo of him and my uncles building it,there was also a noted hockey player that had his cottage there also and can only remember his first name was RED and during WWII I spent time there with mom and kin of coarse mom was a Detroiter.
Leonard “Red” Kelly owned the 2nd cottage from the park. I used to babysit his children while his wife, Andra and him went golfing. Andrea (McLaughlin) was a figure skating champion.
We spent many summers on the island in the 40’s. We stayed in the Quints (a row of joined cottages owned by the Francos). Going farther back, does the name Arthur Mason mean anything to you? I heard he was the first to build a cottage there but can’t find any info. about this.
